8 sheet crosscut shredder with pull out basket

I would have to give this shredder 2 out of 5 stars. It was a nice enough shredder. It did what I needed it too. It shreds 8 sheets at a time as well as cards. I thought it would handle my needs which was basically just shredding mail, that I didn’t want anyone getting a hold of. I don’t shred that often so I thought a cheap shredder would work for me. Apparently  I was wrong. Although I bought it about 2 years ago, I have only used it probably 20-30 times. It easily gets fills up and gets jammed. Then it just stopped turning on. I’m not sure why. Maybe I just got one that broke down and was a fluke. . . I don’t know. I wouldn’t suggest this product unless you are tight on cash and even then there are cheaper ones. If you are still thinking about buying it though, please use our link that I posted. We get a small percentage from them and we use that money to keep up this website. Thank you

In praise of Stay-at-home Moms

This book is great. It really built me up when I started staying home with my children. Even with all the work I did cleaning the home, taking care of the kids needs, and tending to daily life. . . I still felt under appreciated, useless, worthless, not respected, and crappy when someone says “oohh so you dont work” or “so what is your income?”. None of this came from my husband by the way. My husband completely supported me. In fact he came up with the idea. It still really sucked not being reconized for the hard work I do. I’m a stay at home mother by choice. I want to teach my children, cook my husbands dinner when he gets home, clean the house, take my children to school; the doctors; and after school programs. I just didn’t like the effect it was doing to me mentally. Dr Laura Schlessinger is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She had her own radio show for many years and has written many useful books to encourage a healthy, happy marriage. Her book was touching and encouraging. I suggest it to any woman thinking about being a stay at home mom or any woman who is feeling under appreciated or worthless; whether its the world against you or your own husband. This book will help. If your thinking about getting it. Please go through our link here. They give us a small percentage for the referral. That is how we pay to keep up this site. Thank you.

HP Photosmart R727 6.2 megapixel camera

I have had my Photosmart R727 6.2 mega pixel camera for about 5 years and it just now died. Well it works but it cant read the memory cards I put in it and I don’t think that’s the cameras fault. My young kids like to drool on things. I bought this camera when it had just come out and 6.2 mega pixels where great. It was a great camera. It has a lcd screen for viewing, an easy menu to navigate. What I really liked about it was that it had a 3x optical zoom and 8x digital zoom, and was able to take videos. What sold me on it was the lithium battery. I hate going through AA batteries. It has a lot of other features that are great to, like the artistic affects and fun boarders. If I had to pick something I didn’t like about it, I would have to say that i wish it did a little better in dark settings. Now this camera is a few years old. So if your looking for a newer state of the art camera you should read my review on the Sony Cyber-Shot, but if you are looking for something simple and cheap (cheap now – 5 years ago it cost $200) then this is your camera. Its wonderful and I would still be using it today if it hadn’t broke. If your thinking about buying it please go through my link here. They give us a small percentage for referrals and that’s how we are paying to keep the site up. Thank you.

Sony Cyber-shot 16.2 mega pixel camera

I just bought this Sony Cyber-Shot 16.2 mega pixel camera a few months ago and truly enjoy it. I was looking for a new camera after my old one a Photosmart R727 had died.  I really had no idea what I wanted in a camera; other than being able to take video and pictures in a dimly lite room. My other camera was not very good with that. I went on Walmarts website thinking they would have the lowest prices. I jumped around between their cameras a bit. I landed on this one because it said that it was able to take pictures in the dark with its backlight correction and background defocus. I was in a hurry that day to get a new camera and didn’t read much more on it because my other camera had died minutes before we were going to go to the beach; we were already packed and the kids were ready. So my husband ran to Walmart; picked it up and we headed to the beach. I have to say that I’m really impressed by all the extras it has. It is a 16.2 mega pixel, when my last camera was only 6.2. It shoots my movies in 1080@60i and looks beautiful even on the playback on my tv; not just my lcd screen on the camera. It also takes pictures in 3D and panorama. Now I haven’t used the 3D yet because I saw no point in it since I had no way to print 3D. Actually I just bought myself a new printer/scanner and it does print 3D so I’m pretty excited that I get to try that. I have used the normal panorama sweep. It works beautifully. My husband and I are using it for top banner of our website. There is also steady shot which steadies the camera if your shaking it a bit. As well as x5 zoom, 10 fps for a quick shot, and a lithium battery. Here is something really cool. It has a new technology that is able to pick up on faces and can soften the skin to clear up blemishes. . . nice. Now this is one of my favorite parts. It has a smile shutter; which allows you to get the perfect smile. I am so NOT photogenic. I’m always blinking and getting stupid half smurks. This always sucked for me because I never wanted my picture taken; thinking that’s really what I looked like all the time. Well the first time my husband took my picture with the smile shutter, he said to me “Babe, it caught your beautiful smile”. That made me feel great. This camera has a lot more to it as well but I’m still trying it all out. I would defiantly tell anyone to pick this camera. It is truly worth it. One note though. I later found out that Walmart did NOT have the lowest price. Amazon has it for $50 less. If your thinking about buying it please go through my link here. They give us a small percentage for referrals and that’s how we are paying to keep the site up. Thank you.

Vestax VCI-300 (DJ Controller)

Early this year I obtained a VCI-300 by Vestax.  It isn’t an MK-II, but I haven’t noticed much lacking with this thing.  I have to say, it is outstanding.  I’ve used previous midi-based DJ controllers, and they always seem to be lacking.  Most of the time they are clunky and hard to use, but this thing is quite the opposite of that.    It is very easy to use and have a very intuitive layout.  The buttons and nobs are placed very nicely and hardly get in the way during mixing.  The design is lightweight and portable… it would easily fit into a backpack with a laptop.  I’ve used it with the bundled software (Seranto Itch) but more commonly use it with Traktor and Virtual-DJ.  Most software I’ve tried this with, has native compatablity with minimal feature loss.  A couple down sides is that you pretty much lose the smooth scratching ability that you get with Itch… I can’t really find any other software that compares in that area with this thing.  I wasn’t too concerned with that though, cause I have a turntable and prefer that analog scratching feel anyway.  The crossfader is extremely responsive and has controls on the front of the VCI to control the curve.  When I want to play around with some scratching I’ll open itch but, without the added effects unit, the software feels like just that… playing.  It lacks the needs I felt needed to make an interesting mix.  In vDJ this thing rocks though.  I’ve made many mixes on this thing and haven’t really had to customize anything from the default native functionality the software gave me.  There are no buttons to control effects, so I use a midi keyboard for that.  I’d have to say though, if you are looking for a unit to dj two decks, with a soundcard built in, this thing blows away much of the competition that price level.  You do need to clean this thing every once in awhile, but it wasn’t that hard to take it apart and put it back together; there are many tutorials online that walk you through the steps.  Overall I am very satisfied with this and wouldn’t replace it. (accept maybe with something that has more of a vinyl feel… this is definitely not vinyl and shouldn’t be compared to it at all)  Expect a good solid unit with “what you see is what you get” features.  If you are looking for 4 turntables though, look somewhere else… I had many problems using this in that manor and had a hard time even once I got something usable.  This thing is a party starter for sure though, and I am extremely satisfied overall.

FedEx Delivery Review

I ordered a Lego Duplo Deluxe Train Set (5609) for my son for Christmas. The train it self cost me almost $120. I also bought $20 in extra tracks. The whole thing was $165 after shipping and tax. This package wasn’t cheap even though it was from Lego. Today Oct 12th 2011 I was expecting this package to be delivered. Around 8:50 this morning I heard the door bell ring. I jumped up to run to the door. I ran because I wanted to get to the door before my son did. I didn’t want him to see it. When I opened the door the guy was gone. I run pretty quick so that guy didn’t even wait. There was a note on the door saying “side gate”. I have two side gates so I walked around the house looking for where he said he put it . Both of my side gates areas are clean, well lite, cemented, and without shrubs. So I was confused on why he would put it out in the open. I walked around for a few minutes. I couldn’t find it anywhere. I reread the note and it said delivered. I went back inside to grab my phone to call Fedex and ask where he put it. Then I heard my dogs barking. I went outback where I have a pit bull and greman shepard. There I see my package upside down by my gate. The guy tossed it over my 8 foot gate. I have so many problems with this. First, that was not cheap and he just tossed it like nothing. Second, it could have hit my dogs. Third, if my dogs weren’t better trained they could have easily destroyed that box. By the way my white gate has a bright red sign saying beware of dogs. So the guy knew about my dogs. Forth, he didn’t even wait to see if I was home. My last problem with this whole thing is that I bought this for my son for Christmas. He isn’t going to open this thing for months. So if its damaged at all by the toss then I have no way of knowing until then, and if it is its going to be another $165 out of my pocket.  When I have things delivered I normally do it UPS or USPS which has always worked out to my liking. My UPS guy even knows me by name (I don’t even get things shipped to me that often) and is kind enough to wait for me to answer the door. Even if it doesn’t need to be signed for. I have had FedEx ship to my home a few times. Each time they don’t wait, but this is the first time they tossed my package over my wall. So much disrespect. If I can help it. In the future I will always go UPS or USPS.

Update- After this delivery I contacted FedEx to report this problem. I contacted them through there website. Within 30 minutes I had a reply saying they were going to direct my concern to a local branch manager but they needed a little more verification to make sure I am who I say I am. Which was fine. I gave them the info they asked for and about 30 minutes later I got a call from a lady by the name of Tori. She was very kind, patient and sounded generally concerned about my problem. I wasn’t asking for anything. I just wanted her to be aware of the situation because I don’t want that driver doing that to me or one of my neighbors again. She said she would speak to the driver as well as make notes for future delivery to be placed by my door, or under my bench, or in/behind my planter and not tossed over my wall. I didn’t think you needed to tell a guy who delivers packages all day not to go tossing them over gates and walls but whatever. Tori also was kind enough to tell me to keep my packaging and receipt so if come Christmas my sons train is damaged then they will cover it. That was kind but I’m don’t like the fact that my sons Christmas could still be a disappointment. I appreciate her call, and that she was trying to correct the problem but I’m not sure if this corrects FedEx in my eyes. I think I will still try to go through UPS in the future.
